Hot Fuzz

In the opening sequence of Hot Fuzz, the camera angle used is a long shot and we see a dark figure walking through an empty corridor and don't know who it is and this creates a bit of tension for the audience because he is walking towards the camera at a steady pace, and the audience want to know who it is.  The way he is centre of the shot makes it seem that he is an important person which the audience needs to focus on and the sound of his footsteps getting louder as he moves towards the camera make him seem powerful as they become louder after every step.   The lighting used, makes it look like a halo of light that is shining down on him and creates an atmosphere of him being heaven like, or an angel, which could mean he is a pleasent person and looked up to.  When he approaches the camera we see a close up of his face and there is a serious look on his face which is then replaced by him holding up his police identity,  on this is a photograph of him with the exact same face which shows that he is a serious man and will likely always have this face when he is at work to show that he is committed and faithful to his job.  His name 'Nicholas Angel' gives an idea of what he is like as Nicholas can be shortened to Nick and you are put in the 'Nick' when you are arrested which shows that he is good at his job and arrests alot of people, and Angel being his last name shows that, like the halo of light, he is like an angel and will not do anything in his job that is bent and will stay true to it.

  1. Well done George. You pick up on the majority of the key elements in this sequence. Try and do what Bank did and add in screen grabs from the sequence to help further illustrate your analysis.
